Fine Fall Wines
With the change of seasons, our tastes in wines change as well. It is that time of year to sip some crisp white wines or to indulge with some hearty reds. There are many wines that are just perfect to serve up with your next meal and that truly embrace the season.
Chardonnays
Chardonnay wines are produced from green colored grapes from around the world. Some countries which produce some of the best quality chardonnays originate from Australia, France, Italy, and North America. These grapes produce a white colored wine and typically have an oaky flavor to them. Since there are many subtle flavor variations to chardonnays, each wine from each region is quite unique. Here a few chardonnays that perfect to enjoy during the autumn season.
- Four Vines Naked Chardonnay 2009, California - There are many fruit flavors found in this crisp chardonnay. Apples, peaches and pears accent this white wine and make for a wonderful accompaniment to any shrimp entré.
- Riebeek Chardonnay 2010, South Africa - This fruity white wine has subtle flavors of tropical and citrus fruits. The Riebeek chardonnay does not exhibit the traditional oak flavor that most chardonnays possess. This makes it perfect to enjoy with a fresh green salad or any chicken dish.
- Hope Estate Chardonnay Hunter Valley 2008, Australia - Slightly different that other chardonnays, the Hope Estate Chardonnay has a slight spiciness to it, yet lime and apricot flavors add that unique touch. Try pairing this white wine with an Asian-inspired menu.
Cabernet Sauvignons
Cabernet Sauvignon wines have been becoming increasingly popular with the general public within the last few years. These wines are produced from black grapes and produce a hearty red wine. Most often cabernet sauvignons are a blend of or are blended with a merlot and or a Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignons are produced throughout the world. But some of the best varieties come from the Bordeaux wine region, which is located in the country of France. South America and Italy also produce high-quality cabernet sauvignons as well. Here are a few recommended cabernet sauvignons to sample for yourself.
- Lurton Hacienda Araucano Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua 2008, Chile - This Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious representation of South American red wines. The complexity of this red wine has subtle hints of oak and pepper, but are accented with a raspberry and cherry flavor. Pour a glass to compliment a hearty steak dinner.
- Arbios Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2005, California - This earthy cabernet sauvignon is quite a dense red wine. Cedar and oak flavors are quite prominent as well as blackberries and cassis. This combination makes for an excellent blend of flavors and would best be paired with a meatentré.
